The Harp

The Harp

That day there was music coming from the woods. I heard it from my bedroom window. I decided to go see who is playing this mysterious music, so I called my dog Leo, put on his leash and started running out the back door, heading the direction of the woods.

As I walked further through the woods, I could hear the music getting louder and louder. I also start felling butterflies in my stomach,  because I have never been alone in the woods before. What if I get lost! Mom says its dangerous and there might be bears and stuff… I am feeling very lost now, but I still let the music guide me. Leo suddenly jerks the leash forwards, which makes me let go, and he goes running off, but strangely towards the music.

“Leo” I called sacredly, while I was running after him. I could fell tears trickling down my cheek, because I knew he would run away and never come back, I just knew it.

But luckily I finally caught up to him after about 3 minutes, and clicked his leash back on. He looked up at me tiredly, and he looked like he just ran a marathon!

“It wasn’t that long of a run” I told him. “We not are doing anymore running anyway because we are going home!” The music was super loud now, almost like it was  saw a beautiful river but  that wasn’t the interesting part, the interesting part was that I took a closer look, and on the other side of the river there was a harp, but not just  an ordinary harp, it was a shiny golden harp, playing by itself!

I was so confused and scared that I froze in my spot not able to move, but Leo was jumping around in excitement, almost like he has seen this harp before, and was greeting an old friend.

  1. Wow! This post was very descriptive and well written Abbey. I had a dog just like Leo who would always escape his leash and would run off exploring the neighborhood. I especially know that feeling of wondering if they were ever going to come back.

    • Hello Brielle,
Thank you for commenting on my blog! I am glad you liked my poem! What did you do when your dog escaped? It probably would be hard to catch him, because he is a dog, and they love to run! The reason I used the name Leo for the dog in the story, is because my dog is actually named Leo, although my dog never have gotten lose from his leash before. A couple of times my dog Piggy got lose from her leash though too, so I also know that feeling. Scary, right? One last question, what is your dogs name? Well have a awesome day!
      Sincerely, Abbey

  2. Dear Abbey,

I really liked your poem especially the part when you finally see the harp and your dog is barking at it. I was wondering if you write poems a lot because I thought it seemed really thought out and tasteful to a reader, if not I think you would be a really good writer because I see how much depth you put into your writing and how you put very interesting things to spice up your story like the unknown music coming from the woods or how your dog kept gravitating towards it. However, I would really like it if you checked out my blog and maybe even drop a comment. Here is the link:https://kidblog.org/class/baderbunch6-2/posts?author=d66w2r017uc4ftyab6wkgloeg
