Katniss Everdeen: The Star Survivor

Katniss Everdeen ( 2012 )

Did you know that Katniss Everdeen is a really good hunter? Katniss uses a bow and arrow to do this, because she is really good with a bow and arrow! The reason I know she is really good at it, is because when she is hunting, she can hit her kill right in the eye! At the top you can see a picture of  Katniss Everdeen. Today I am going to talk about her and her successful learner traits.

You probably know that Katniss is from the book and the movie, The Hunger Games.  I don’t want to spoil the movie or book to much for you so don’t worry I’m not going to give away the really juicy parts. If you have never read the book before I highly recommend it! I watched the movie before I discovered the book but I wish  I hadn’t because as you know it is always best to read the book first, so if you are going to get into the Hunger Games make sure to read the book first!

First of all, I think that Katniss is a big risk-taker because at one point in the games she was up in a tree and spotted a tracker jacker’s nest right above her. (A tracker jacker is like a wasp but much, much worse. I think if you get stung by more than five or six of them you will probably die right on the spot.) She cut down the branch with her knife while the people she was fighting against were right under her! While she was cutting she got a couple stings herself but not enough to kill her. This is just one way to show she is a risk taker but in the book she does a lot more risky stuff….

Katniss is also  compassionate, especially to another girl in the games named Rue. Even though Katniss is in a different district then Rue,  Katniss decided to team up with her because she knew Rue couldn’t make it without her. And she had to face it, she would have more of a chance with Rue then she would by herself. The way I knew she was compassionate to Rue is because she gave Rue more than half of her food. Another example was that, even when they where splitting up for a plan that they had, Katniss left Rue with the sleeping bag even though she also clearly needed it too, because in the games it gets super cold in the arena. She also showed compassion to Peeta ( the boy in her district, who is also in the games with her, since there’s one boy and one girl in the games from each district) for helping him with his wounds.

And last but not least, I think Katniss is really strategic in many ways. For example, she is very strategic in her food supplies. She only eats a little every day and makes sure she always has a lot left at the end of the day. I  also think that she is strategic when she is hunting. She hits her kill right in the eye, like I said earlier, And last thing is when she tied herself in a tree at night so she couldn’t be spotted and she wouldn’t fall out of the tree! I thought that was really smart. She was basically strategic throughout the whole book\movie, and I think Katniss Everdeen is a very strategic and a very smart girl!

Overall, I think Katniss follows all the successful learner traits! I think everybody should follow a bit in her foot steps by thinking ahead, being confident in yourself, take risks, be fair, collaborate, be compassionate to others, work hard to get the job done effectively, and know what has to be done. These are some things Katniss does and follows and I think you should follow them too, to become a very successful learner.

Remembrance Day

Damavand, Iran

Hello everyone! As you know today is Remembrance day. Today I am going to share with you my poem that I came up with last year, about Remembrance day! My poem is called “We Will Always Remember Them.”

For those who fought,

for those who died,

for those who lived,

for those who tried,

and for those who saved our Canadian lives,

we will always remember them.

For those who risked their courageous lives,

who left their daughters and their wives,

who fought at war and gave us peace,

we will always remember them.

I hoped you liked my poem as much as I liked writing it! I think I had about two or three other verses to the poem, but I forgot how they went……. Please tell me in the comments, if you have any favorite poems about Remembrance day, if you made up any poems or comment on what Remembrance Day means to you! ( Just some suggestions on what to comment )   ; )

Goodbye and have a nice day!

Sincerely, Abbey

Halloween

The Great Jack-O-Lantern BlazeCreative Commons License

Hello everyone! Today I am writing about Halloween and some of my traditions that I do on Halloween.

This year for Halloween I was a devil. What where you for Halloween? I thought the devil would be a unique costume but I was wrong. I saw a lot of people at my school and out trick or treating who where Devils this year. I guess it was a very popular costume this year. I probably saw over ten people in devil costumes! Did you see a lot of people in devil costumes this year or is it just me.

My Traditions

I go to my friend, Ambar’s house every year and a lot of her family and her family friends come (that includes my family) and we have a party! All the kids go out trick or treating together, in a big group and it gets super crowded at the front door of someones house waiting for candy! We always plan a big route to make sure that we get lots of candy! Around the middle of our route we stop at the fire hall and they hand out free hot chocolate, hot dogs and sometimes even Tim Bits!

When we all get back home from trick or treating we have the biggest, most epic, awesome trading session you would ever imagine! All the kids dump out all their candy on Ambar’s down stairs floor and trade. We trade Coffee Crisps for Smarties and Hershey’s for Kit Kats and so much more trading.

After trading almost every year we will show a haunted house for the parents. This year I was one of those people who walk you through the whole haunted house. I was  actually pretty creepy. I can walk up and down the stairs in a really creepy way that I wish I could show you but of course I can’t in a post.

First, picture yourself like you are actually walking through this haunted house. I walk you into a pitch black room  and slam the door behind you as I walk you through the dark room I make a creepy hum which gives it a really creepy effect.

Suddenly, a hand grabs you from underneath the table and you hear a high pitch scream which  scares you a whole lot! when we are almost at the door to the next room you hear banging from the other room and a soft “help me.” Before I open the door, I explain to you that I’m not going to come in with you for no particular reason. I push you in there and slam the door behind you.

I’m not to sure what happened in the other room because I did not go in the room, but I do know the lights flicker and there is a scary clown in there. Next I run to the last room to get ready to act. When you leave the 2nd room and walk into the 3rd room, my friend Thai is dressed up all scary and he runs out of the bathroom and stabs me. I scream as you run up the stairs for your life.

Well that’s the end. I sort of over exaggerated, but I am pretty close to the real thing.

Well that’s it. I hope you had fun reading all about my Halloween! I would like to hear about your Halloween and how it went for you, so make sure to leave a comment!

Goodbye and have a nice day.

Sincerely, Abbey

My Dog Leo

In the above picture, you can see my dog Leo in shorts and a shirt! The day I took this picture, I was doing a photo shoot for all my pets.

Leo is 3 quarters beagle and 1 quarter Springer spaniel. He is 4 years  old, although he’s  basically 5 because his birthday is in a month. Leo can do a lot of tricks like jump jumps that are as high as my knees go up to, shake a paw, sit, jump up on command and tons more! He likes to play fetch but he is not so good on the bringing back the ball part. I tried to teach him to play fetch but he does not seem to want to bring the ball back, so I chase him around my backyard about 10 times and finally grab the ball out of his mouth after we are both tired out.

Sometimes he even plays hide and go seek with me or tag! He loves people but barks at dogs when they are walking by, but I think he is barking at them because he wants to play with them.

Leo is a great dog but not so great when it comes to walking him. He will pull so much that your arm feels like its going to fall off! My dog Piggy is a great walker though. I will make a post about her soon so you can read about her too! I might also make a post on my cat, Milo.

Goodbye and have a nice day.

Sincerely, Abbey

Winter

Hello everybody,

As you know, winter is coming soon. I am writing about winter because right this minute I am looking out the window and it is snowing outside! I cant can’t believe its it’s snowing already! At the start of November!

Winter is my favorite season, besides summer of course. Winter is a time of year where we can have fun in the snow and build snow forts, go sledding, go skiing, build snowmen, have snowball fights, make snow angels and tons more.  When I get cold or tired I can go inside my house and have a warm cup of hot chocolate in front of the fire.

Another one of my favorite parts of winter is that our family goes on vacations a lot in winter. We go to Mexico in the winter often, because it’s really sunny there. even in winter! We go in winter because my mom and dad don’t really like snow very much. I’ve been to Mexico three or four times, all during winter. Where have you been for vacations?

I really like how pretty the trees look with all the snow on them, especially cedars. I have a lot of cedars in my backyard and they make me feel like I’m walking in a winter wonderland! What Is your favorite part about winter, and why? Thanks for reading and have a nice day! ( :

I absolutely love horse back riding! I have only been riding for a bit more then than a year now but I think I will be riding for the rest of my life. I ride at a place called Sprout Meadows every Tuesday and I ride a horse named Cheyenne. My best friend, Ambar, also rides at Sprout Meadows too!

I also love art.  Almost every day I do art\drawing either at home or at school. Whenever I am at school and I see that we are doing art next I get really excited! Art is my favorite subject in school. I mostly sketch because I am not very good at painting but I still also enjoy painting.

If you do not know what D.I. is it’s a club that you go to after school that has challenges with fun skits, and challenges where you have to build towers or bridges and stuff like that, but you have to have them free standing or no tape or those types of challenges.
