My Last day of Elementary School

Hello Everybody,

Today is my last day full day of elementary school and today I am a little excited, sad and nervous all at the same time.  I will miss all the wonderful teachers and staff here, especially my teachers Ms. Smith and Mrs. Roberts. I will also miss all the great kids here and most of all I will  just miss the whole school itself. Although I am sad about leaving elementary school I am still looking forward to High school. I cant wait to meet new friends, try new things and have new adventures. I am leaving elementary but I will still try and do some more blogging in the summer break. Please comment and tell me what grade you are going into and what you are looking forward to in the next school year.

Have a great summer!

Sincerely, Abbey

My Dog Piggy

A photo from pixabay

Hello everybody,

Since I wrote a post on my dog Leo a little while ago, I am going to make one on my other dog, Piggy. Piggy is a 5 year old Boston terrier that loves to cuddle, snort and sleep. I could not get a picture of her, but I found a picture on pixabay that looks like her, that you can see up above.  Normally Piggy is on the couch snorting or sleeping, but when she is not on the couch, she is probably outside on the deck, (because she doesn’t like grass) or she is waddling around the house looking for something to do. Sometimes if my family leaves her outside for to long, she finds a way to get out of our backyard and goes for a walk by her self. It king of scary though when you don’t know where she is for hours, but we always find her.

Unlike my dog Leo, Piggy is not so bad when we take her for walks. she does not pull (like my dog Leo) but  sometimes stops and refuses to walk forwards. She can be stubborn that way, because when she stops it means she wants to go the other way, but instead we end up picking her up and carrying her a couple steps but she normally starts walking after that.

Piggy wouldn’t be a very good dog guard, because if anyone walks into our house she starts jumping up and down on her two hind legs, and puts her front paws on the persons legs. She always gets so excited when someone comes, and after like 5 minutes and she is calmed down, she will stick to that person. So if you ever come to my house and Piggy is jumping up and down on you, I would not sit on the couch if I where you because she will sit or cuddle up to you and never leave ( That is if there is no food around of course.)

Overall Piggy is a very sweet  and cuddly dog, and I think she would actually be a great dog for a old lady because she loves sitting down and cuddling with people all day, and she doesn’t like walks very much.

Do you have a dogs at home?  If you do, please tell me about your dog  in the comments!  Goodbye and have a awesome day.

Sincerely, Abbey

Where I Live

Hello everybody!

Have you ever gone skiing and then swimming at the beach all in the same day? Well here you can, in my home town, the Comox Valley.

I live in a small town, called the Comox Valley, in B.C Canada. We have lots of nature kinds of stuff in the  Comox Valley, like beautiful beaches, lakes and forests, that’s one thing I love about Comox. Another one of my favorite things, is how safe it is here, with no big shootings, robbery’s or crazy criminals and things like that. One thing I don’t like about the Comox Valley though, is that nothing really interesting ever really happens here, because like I said its a very small town, with only about 14 000 people living here.

If you ever get a chance to come visit here, I totally recommend going up to Mount Washington. Its a great ski hill from the bunny hill to lots of very challenging runs. No matter if your a great skier and are going up for some fun, or your just learning and coming up to try it out, either way it is still super fun to go! If you are not interested in skiing you can still come up and have a awesome time, with activities like tubing and snow boarding and even snowshoeing. I have not gone skiing for a very long time (since my parents are not that into it anymore) but one thing I remember about Mount Washington, from when I was little was the big ski lifts. I loved going up them, but I always got nervous at the end because I didn’t think I was going to get off in time. but I always did.

...

I also recommend going to Goose Spit. I know it sounds very weird, but its actually a great beach! When I where younger, and I went to Goose Spit, I really liked going to a place sort of behind the beach, and it has massive dirt slides that where really fun to slide down. ( although no matter how hard I tried not to, I still got really dirty by the end.) Another one of my favorite things to do there is go up and down these super tall stairs that are like 100 steps high. I know it does not sound so fun, but surprisingly it is. And plus it gives you a lot of exercise. Bonus! I really like the beach part too, because it is actually somewhat sandy. Although the ocean is a bit rocky, it is still fells good to cool off and splash around.

Rocky Empty Beach

Lastly, I absolutely love all the forests here. They are all so beautiful. I love looking at and learning about all the great nature that the forest has to offer. I also really enjoy the pine kind of smell there too, it is the kind of smell that gives me a very happy feeling inside, for a reason I don’t know why. I also think everything in the woods always looks so magical and beautiful, especially in fall. I guess you could say, all my senses are very excited when it comes to trips to the forest.

Navarro Redwood State Park, Mendocino County, California

Well, Comox Valley is no Disneyland, but it still is not so bad of a place, so if you live close and are looking for a small vacation that is cheap and full of exploring, then maybe consider coming here. Overall Comox Valley is a great place, with great people, and great things to do. Please tell me in the comments a bit about where you live and where you are from.

Goodbye and have a awesome day!

Sincerely, Abbey

The Harp

The Harp

That day there was music coming from the woods. I heard it from my bedroom window. I decided to go see who is playing this mysterious music, so I called my dog Leo, put on his leash and started running out the back door, heading the direction of the woods.

As I walked further through the woods, I could hear the music getting louder and louder. I also start felling butterflies in my stomach,  because I have never been alone in the woods before. What if I get lost! Mom says its dangerous and there might be bears and stuff… I am feeling very lost now, but I still let the music guide me. Leo suddenly jerks the leash forwards, which makes me let go, and he goes running off, but strangely towards the music.

“Leo” I called sacredly, while I was running after him. I could fell tears trickling down my cheek, because I knew he would run away and never come back, I just knew it.

But luckily I finally caught up to him after about 3 minutes, and clicked his leash back on. He looked up at me tiredly, and he looked like he just ran a marathon!

“It wasn’t that long of a run” I told him. “We not are doing anymore running anyway because we are going home!” The music was super loud now, almost like it was  saw a beautiful river but  that wasn’t the interesting part, the interesting part was that I took a closer look, and on the other side of the river there was a harp, but not just  an ordinary harp, it was a shiny golden harp, playing by itself!

I was so confused and scared that I froze in my spot not able to move, but Leo was jumping around in excitement, almost like he has seen this harp before, and was greeting an old friend.

I am Nancy: A story about the homeless

Hello everybody!

I am going to share with you my story (that I came up with) about a homeless person who has to get through hard times and about the people who help her along the way.

Hello, I am Nancy. I am a normal person, with hopes and dreams, like any other average person, but I wouldn’t call myself average. As I am writing this, I am sitting in a sleeping bag. But I am not at a slumber party with my friends, or rapped up on the couch watching one of my favorite movies. I am on the street in a dirty, ripped up, old sleeping bag. I see myself as a normal everyday person but other people do not see me like that. Normally people are starring at me or ignoring me. It makes me feel uncomfortable. Sometimes people laugh at me, which makes me want to cry, so I just hide under my sleeping bag. Maybe about every month, someone will come up to me and give me some food but that’s all. I always become instantly starving again the next day. I live in Vancouver, in a crack between a expensive jewelry store and a designer clothes store, and of course I can not afford any of that stuff. Not that I need it anyway.

Day 1.

It snowed last night. I was freezing cold all night, and got frost bite on my toes! A nice man from a restaurant across the street came to me this morning and offered me a hot bucket of water. I guess he noticed that I was freezing. That hot water felt really nice on my toes though! Then he offered me some left over food that some people left this morning.  Maybe this was not the kindest offer ever, but it was better then nothing!  The guy promised at the end of each day he would give me all the left over food. He is a life saver! It was also the coldest day ever  today! I overheard a conversation that two people where having and apparently it is –15 degrees! Somehow I got threw the day but it was not that easy. People where laughing at me all day  sitting here on this cold day. I am now ready to go to sleep. I will write again in the morning…….

Day 2.

Today I woke up to the nice sound of someone playing a guitar on the street. I listened to the music for about an hour. It was soothing music that made my morning better then it would have been, but I am still starving. While I was humming to the music, I saw a little girl walking towards me with a bag of candy in her hand. She came up to me and showed me a dollar that she had in her hand. “here you go” she said ” This is my left over money from the candy store. Would you like a big sour key too?” I was very surprised that she was talking to me without  being scared. Most kids would scream at the site of me. I managed to get out a  quiet “yes please” so she put the dollar and the candy in my hand and skipped away yelling ” great doing business with you, have a good day!” I smiled and chewed on my candy…..Today I got the left over food again, but there wasn’t much. Oh well better then nothing.

Day 3.

Today I thought of going to live somewhere else, maybe in a crack between less expensive stores. I had all my stuff packed up, and I was ready to go. I took my first step and gazed down the side walk, and saw a little figure walking towards me. It was the little girl I saw yesterday! I decide to stay, because I am hoping she will bring me another dollar. I doubt it though. She came right up to me again but this time she had less candy in her bag  and handed me two dollars. “I decided to leave more for you” she said. I smiled at her and said “Thankyou so much” Then I caught her looking at me “you know what, you can have this too” she said, and handed me the candy bag.  I looked at her in shock. “I will just tell my mom I ate all the candy on my way home ” she said. Like yesterday she turned around and skipped away and  said again “Great doing business with you, have a good day!” “You too.” I whispered to myself

I am so hungry now it hurts! I decide to go across the street to that restaurant to see if there is anything I can get with three dollars….. The cheapest thing here is a burger for 3.50 . I wonder if candy can fill in for 50 cents. I go up to the front and ask “I have three dollars and candy, Is that enough for a burger?” The guy looked at the bored that said burger – 3.50. Then he looked at me for about 5 seconds and said “Silly me, I guess I wrote the wrong numbers. He went up to the chalk board and erased 3.50 and put on 2.00 instead.  “So did you want a burger?”…… I Just finished  my burger and now I am on my way home. I  just got out the door and I look behind me. I see the guy changing that board to make  it say burgers – 3.50 once again. I looked at him and smiled, and at this time I noticed it was the guy who gives me food every night! And he tried to help me! I headed back to my little old sleeping bag smiling.

2 months later

The little girl ( which I soon found out that her name is Nicole,) kept bring me money and candy everyday. One day she explained  to me that her mom gives her $4.00 for candy everyday before she leaves for school, so that she can get candy on her way back home, and she never told her mom about me because she thinks she will get in trouble. I am so thankful for her. And the guy who brought me food every night got fired from his job when his boss found out he was bringing me food. I helped him through his bad days as well. I am also very thankful for him. Oh and guess where I am right now, I am in my house curled up in my new sleeping bag watching my favorite movie on the couch, and with  me is The guy from the restaurant who is now my loving husband,  and my 2 year old little girl who I named Nicole.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed, and don’t forget to leave a comment. Goodbye and have a awesome day.

Sincerely, Abbey

Cats vs Dogs

ZZZzzzzz....

Hello Everybody!

Which animal do you like more, dogs or cats? I like them both the same. They’re both great animals. I have two dogs named, Leo and Piggy, and one cat named, Milo! I made a post on Leo, so make sure to click the link and check it out! I might do posts on Piggy and Milo soon too, so come to my blog again soon!

Today I am going to be writing fun facts about both dogs and cats. and by the end of the post I will declare which animal is more interesting! I am going to have 6 rounds, and I am using # to  show which animal won each round. By the end of the post I am going to add up each animals #’s and tell you who won!

1.  A group of cats is called a clowder.  #

A group of dogs is called a pack, if they’re in the wild.

2. The average cat can live up to 12 to 15 years #

The average dog  can live up to 10 to 13 years, but it is different for  each dog breed.

3. The oldest cat lived for 38 years, her name was Cream Puff.   #

The oldest dog lived 29 years and 5 months, his name was Bluey.

4. The tallest cat in the world, is a savanna cat that reaches just over 9 inches!

The tallest dog, is a Great Dane named Zeus, he is around 44 inches tall!  #

5. The smallest cat in the world is named, Tinker Toy and she is 2.75 inches tall and  7.5 inches    long

The smallest dog in the world is named, Milly and she is 3.8 inches tall and 6 inches long.  She as small as a coke bottle! #

6. The longest tailed cat has a tail that is 44.66 cm long. Her name is Cygnus.

The longest tailed dog has a tail that is 76.8 cm long. His name is Keon. #

Since its a tie, I am going to add one last question, the tie breaker. The question is….. What animal can hear higher frequencies ? Believe it or not, A cat can hear higher frequencies. A cat can hear up to 60 kilohertz, while a dog can hear up to 40 kilohertz. Humans can only hear up to 20 kilohertz. Wow cats can hear really high frequencies!  Well that tells you, cats won!  Even though cats won, Dogs and cats are  both, in my opinion, equally interesting animals! Do you have any cats or dogs at home? Also,Tell me in the comments if you agree with me that cats won!

Goodbye and have a nice day!

Sincerely, Abbey

Katniss Everdeen: The Star Survivor

Katniss Everdeen ( 2012 )

Did you know that Katniss Everdeen is a really good hunter? Katniss uses a bow and arrow to do this, because she is really good with a bow and arrow! The reason I know she is really good at it, is because when she is hunting, she can hit her kill right in the eye! At the top you can see a picture of  Katniss Everdeen. Today I am going to talk about her and her successful learner traits.

You probably know that Katniss is from the book and the movie, The Hunger Games.  I don’t want to spoil the movie or book to much for you so don’t worry I’m not going to give away the really juicy parts. If you have never read the book before I highly recommend it! I watched the movie before I discovered the book but I wish  I hadn’t because as you know it is always best to read the book first, so if you are going to get into the Hunger Games make sure to read the book first!

First of all, I think that Katniss is a big risk-taker because at one point in the games she was up in a tree and spotted a tracker jacker’s nest right above her. (A tracker jacker is like a wasp but much, much worse. I think if you get stung by more than five or six of them you will probably die right on the spot.) She cut down the branch with her knife while the people she was fighting against were right under her! While she was cutting she got a couple stings herself but not enough to kill her. This is just one way to show she is a risk taker but in the book she does a lot more risky stuff….

Katniss is also  compassionate, especially to another girl in the games named Rue. Even though Katniss is in a different district then Rue,  Katniss decided to team up with her because she knew Rue couldn’t make it without her. And she had to face it, she would have more of a chance with Rue then she would by herself. The way I knew she was compassionate to Rue is because she gave Rue more than half of her food. Another example was that, even when they where splitting up for a plan that they had, Katniss left Rue with the sleeping bag even though she also clearly needed it too, because in the games it gets super cold in the arena. She also showed compassion to Peeta ( the boy in her district, who is also in the games with her, since there’s one boy and one girl in the games from each district) for helping him with his wounds.

And last but not least, I think Katniss is really strategic in many ways. For example, she is very strategic in her food supplies. She only eats a little every day and makes sure she always has a lot left at the end of the day. I  also think that she is strategic when she is hunting. She hits her kill right in the eye, like I said earlier, And last thing is when she tied herself in a tree at night so she couldn’t be spotted and she wouldn’t fall out of the tree! I thought that was really smart. She was basically strategic throughout the whole book\movie, and I think Katniss Everdeen is a very strategic and a very smart girl!

Overall, I think Katniss follows all the successful learner traits! I think everybody should follow a bit in her foot steps by thinking ahead, being confident in yourself, take risks, be fair, collaborate, be compassionate to others, work hard to get the job done effectively, and know what has to be done. These are some things Katniss does and follows and I think you should follow them too, to become a very successful learner.

Halloween

The Great Jack-O-Lantern BlazeCreative Commons License

Hello everyone! Today I am writing about Halloween and some of my traditions that I do on Halloween.

This year for Halloween I was a devil. What where you for Halloween? I thought the devil would be a unique costume but I was wrong. I saw a lot of people at my school and out trick or treating who where Devils this year. I guess it was a very popular costume this year. I probably saw over ten people in devil costumes! Did you see a lot of people in devil costumes this year or is it just me.

My Traditions

I go to my friend, Ambar’s house every year and a lot of her family and her family friends come (that includes my family) and we have a party! All the kids go out trick or treating together, in a big group and it gets super crowded at the front door of someones house waiting for candy! We always plan a big route to make sure that we get lots of candy! Around the middle of our route we stop at the fire hall and they hand out free hot chocolate, hot dogs and sometimes even Tim Bits!

When we all get back home from trick or treating we have the biggest, most epic, awesome trading session you would ever imagine! All the kids dump out all their candy on Ambar’s down stairs floor and trade. We trade Coffee Crisps for Smarties and Hershey’s for Kit Kats and so much more trading.

After trading almost every year we will show a haunted house for the parents. This year I was one of those people who walk you through the whole haunted house. I was  actually pretty creepy. I can walk up and down the stairs in a really creepy way that I wish I could show you but of course I can’t in a post.

First, picture yourself like you are actually walking through this haunted house. I walk you into a pitch black room  and slam the door behind you as I walk you through the dark room I make a creepy hum which gives it a really creepy effect.

Suddenly, a hand grabs you from underneath the table and you hear a high pitch scream which  scares you a whole lot! when we are almost at the door to the next room you hear banging from the other room and a soft “help me.” Before I open the door, I explain to you that I’m not going to come in with you for no particular reason. I push you in there and slam the door behind you.

I’m not to sure what happened in the other room because I did not go in the room, but I do know the lights flicker and there is a scary clown in there. Next I run to the last room to get ready to act. When you leave the 2nd room and walk into the 3rd room, my friend Thai is dressed up all scary and he runs out of the bathroom and stabs me. I scream as you run up the stairs for your life.

Well that’s the end. I sort of over exaggerated, but I am pretty close to the real thing.

Well that’s it. I hope you had fun reading all about my Halloween! I would like to hear about your Halloween and how it went for you, so make sure to leave a comment!

Goodbye and have a nice day.

Sincerely, Abbey
